Give the gift of life..Give Blood at our upcoming Blood drive
|St. Albert the Great is participating in Pint-Size Heroes, an exciting program developed by the American Red Cross. The Pint-Size Heroes program is a Red Cross initiative specially designed to introduce children to the blood donation process and the importance of giving blood.
Children are encouraged to help with the process by recruiting parents, guardians or other adults to give blood. Children who recruit at least one donor who attends the blood drive will receive a dress down pass. The prizes serve as an incentive; however, through the blood drive process the children will realize that the true prize is the rewarding feeling of knowing their efforts helped to save lives.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Thirty seven percent of the population is eligible to donate blood; yet only 5 percent of the population gives blood on a regular basis. Due to the economy and so many business closings, we do not have as many places to host blood drives. We are asking our church and community drives to help us collect more blood.
Won’t you please consider giving blood? Not only will you be helping save the lives of up to three people, you will also be teaching your child the valuable lesson of the importance of humanitarian acts. Giving blood is safe and simple. The entire process for blood donation takes about an hour.
If you are at least 16 years of age (with parental consent) or 17 and older, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. All donors need to bring identification. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and hope to see you at the blood drive!
