Happy Friday to All,
We have been busy little workers in KB this week. We took our first Math check up, completing Chapter 1. We began Chapter 2 Numbers 1-5. We read about getting to school and school rules. We continue to talk about God’s Gifts in Religion. This week we talked about the gift of water and how it helps us live. We continue to work with sight words daily. Please add these words to the quarter 1 sight word list: like, and, see, we, to. There are now a total of 30 sight words for Quarter 1.
If you have not done so, please go to the St. Albert web site and sign up for Rediker. This is how you will receive your child’s report card at the end of Quarter 1. There will only be two paper report cards this year.
The next couple of weeks we will be talking about Fall and Apples. There are a few things we will need for our Apple unit. First each child is asked to bring an apple to school by Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014. Please send the apple in a bag with your child’s name. We will measure, sort, and graph the apples. We will have a tasting of various apple products. For this tasting we need: a jug of apple juice, a jar of apple jelly, a box of apple cereal, a box of saltine crackers, and 2 apple pies that are baked commercially with an ingredient label present. We will also be making applesauce. For this we need: 2 Tablespoons of cinnamon, 2 Cups of sugar, 18 small plastic cups (cocktail size) and 24 spoons. We will need all of these items (except pies) by Tuesday, Sept. 23. We need the pies on Friday, Sept. 26. If you would be able to send in any of these items please send me an e-mail. I will keep a master list here and mark off the items as I receive your emails. I will send a return email confirming the item or letting you know we already have a volunteer. Thanks ahead of time for all you do.
Many clubs and activities have started after school. If your child is going to one of these or not going to their regular pick up place, please remember to send me a note or email. If I do not have it in writing I can’t let your child go.
On Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 we will have a lock down drill. We will practice our procedures in the event that we have an intruder enter our school. We have many St. Albert parents that are police officers that will be here to help out with the drill. We will explain to the children the procedure and that it is just practice and another way we are keeping them safe. Please talk with your child about this.
Please check the Blue Book for sock reminders-socks must be black or white and must show over the top of the shoe.
Now that the weather is turning cooler more students are wearing sweatshirts or sweaters. Please make sure to put your child’s name in his/her sweatshirt or sweater.
If you are interested in the Heuser Hearing Institute hearing and speech screening please return the yellow sheet that was sent home this week.
Mondays are our Library day. Please be sure to return books on or before Monday so your child may check out a new book. Thank you.
Save the date: Wednesday, October 15 we will hold Kindergarten 101. This is a very important meeting for parents. Now that the school year has started I am sure you may have questions about your child’s very busy day in Kindergarten. The three Kindergarten rooms will meet in their homerooms at 6:30 until 7:30, where our Language Arts and Math programs will be explained in more detail and end with questions and answers.
