Welcome to St. Albert’s school. I am Stacie Short, the school counselor. As the counselor, I am involved in many aspects of the student’s life, from his emotional health and social growth to her academic success. I also work very closely with parents, teachers, and the administration. It is so important that we all work together to help the student feel successful.
I look forward to working with you and your child. If you would like to contact me please use the following email: firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like me to see your child please complete this form and return it at your convenience.
Our counseling program consists of many programs that can help all students.
I meet with each class at least once a month to discuss issues that are important to that particular age group. For example, friendship skills, bullying, respect, lifeskills, etc.
Small Group Counseling
Small group Counseling involves a small number of students that may need extra help in their social development. A small group allows each child to have a more personal experience and an opportunity to exercise the techniques they learn in a non-judgmental environment.
Individual counseling is for students who may need to have a one on one conversation about issues they are experiencing in their life at this time. Many issues can be solved over a short period of time. Outside referrals are given when needed for issues that may be more complex. A list of outside referrals is available on request.
Minds in Motion Maze
This program works with our Kindergarten classes. Offered at the student’s snack time in the cafeteria, it includes exercises designed to develop and challenge a student’s balance and learning capabilities.
The House Program
The House Program is for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. This program offers an opportunity for the Jr. High to work together as a family. There are eleven houses with two eighth grade leaders, one teacher mentor, and a mixture of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. There are monthly activities designed for teambuilding and social interaction, as well as service to our school and community.
The Peace Builder program involves the entire school in creating peace throughout St. Albert and in the community. We say our pledge each day. We focus on giving up put downs and helping others.
Discipline with a Purpose
A nationally acclaimed program that is currently taught in hundreds of schools, Discipline With a Purpose is based on 15 self-discipline skills that are used as a framework for making decisions about a child’s growth in self-discipline.
Bucket Fillers is an anti–bullying program based on the concept that everyone carries around an invisible bucket. Bucket filling is doing good deeds for others and showing someone that you care about them. Bucket dipping is treating others in a mean way. A bully is a bucket dipper. Every classroom has a bucket, reminding each student to be a bucket filler every day.
